WIPIT, a law firm specializing in venture capital and technology law with offices in Berlin, Mannheim, and Munich, is expanding its advisory spectrum in the areas of digital business, media, and artificial intelligence by welcoming Dr. Philipp-Christian Thomale, who will join the firm’s Berlin office on June 1, 2026.

With over 20 years of experience at the intersection of law, technology, and media, Dr. Thomale brings extensive expertise from both in-house practice and strategic legal consulting. Most recently, he spent more than 15 years as Senior Legal Counsel at Axel Springer SE, where he was responsible for key digital, IT, and media projects.

His primary areas of practice include:

• IT and digital law (agile IT projects, digital business models, AI applications, EU AI Act)
• Copyright, trademark, and media law
• Tech compliance, data protection, and data governance
• Litigation in landmark cases up to the Federal Court of Justice

Dr. Thomale has led the legal aspects of numerous strategic projects, including the launch of a TV channel, the repeated acquisition of premium sports media rights (including the Bundesliga and World Cups), the development of digital platforms, and the negotiation of extensive cooperation agreements with international platform companies. He was also responsible for strategic litigation in cases against ad blockers, taking them all the way to the Federal Court of Justice.

In addition to his legal practice, Dr. Thomale has been a lecturer at the European University Viadrina since 2008 and is an author of leading legal reference works.
