To support this growth, the firm welcomes Dr. Philipp-Christian Thomale, who joins the Berlin office on June 1, 2026.
With more than 20 years of experience at the intersection of law, technology and media, Dr. Thomale brings extensive expertise from both in-house legal practice and strategic legal advisory work. Most recently, he served for more than 15 years as Senior Legal Counsel at Axel Springer SE, where he was responsible for major digital, IT and media projects.
His areas of expertise include in particular:
Dr. Thomale has led the legal aspects of numerous strategic projects, including the establishment of a television channel, multiple acquisitions of premium sports media rights (including Bundesliga football and FIFA World Cup rights), the development of digital platforms, and the negotiation of complex cooperation agreements with international platform companies. He also managed strategic litigation in proceedings against ad blockers before the German Federal Court of Justice.
In addition to his legal practice, Dr. Thomale has been a lecturer at the European University Viadrina since 2008 and is the author of contributions to leading legal reference works.
